OhioDance

The organization began as the Association of Ohio Dance Companies, formed in 1976 by representatives from 16 Ohio dance companies. To reflect the increased membership it served, the association changed its name to OhioDance (OD) in 1984.

First statewide Festival at Kenyon College, Gambier.
1987
Fiscal agent for major institutions support outreach initiative programs (MISOIP) project.
1988
GCAC nomination for outstanding arts event of the year (Festival).
1989
Office moved to Columbus. First National Performance Network residency hosted by OhioDance.
1995
OhioDances! Videotape of Ohio's diverse dance companies produced.
1996
Publication of expanded statewide dance directory and resource guide.
1997
Website established on server shared with State Arts Service Organizations of Ohio.
1998
Festival in Columbus in conjunction with Network '98: conference of the International Network of Performing and Visual Arts Schools; Choreographers Showcase reestablished.
2000
Two OhioDance Award categories established: outstanding contributions to the dance artform and to dance education.

OhioDance and The Theatre Research Institute at The Ohio State University in conjunction with Dance Heritage Coalition’s Exhibition America’s 100 Dance Treasures present Ohio’s Dance Treasures, Columbus.

Professional auditions at the Festival for companies, pre-professional ensembles and University programs.

Dance Education portion of the Website updated.

$1,000 Scholarship awarded at Festival.

OD and OAC present dance performance at the statehouse for National Arts and Humanities month.
Gravity’s Ripple: Dublin Arts Council and OhioDance in collaboration with The Ohio State University Department of Dance and The Ohio Department of Education Division of the Arts present a site-specific contemporary dance work that incorporates the artistic impact of the Scioto River.
2010
Imagination Conversation-OhioDance and Oberlin College in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Education hosted one of Ohio's panel discussions on the role the imagination plays in education and American society as a whole. The topic was inspired by the Lincoln Center. The panelists were distinguished faculty from Oberlin College.
2011
OD partners with VSA to offer dance residencies for students with disabilities.
2012
OD offers outstanding dance student scholarship.
2012-2014
OD spring festival co-sponsored by BalletMet Columbus.
2013
OD partners with Amethyst, Inc., a recovery center for women and their children, to offer dance classes and performance.

Fall festival in different regions of state.

Begin research to add a Virtual Dance Collection on OhioDance website

Through festivals and conferences, educational resources, networking opportunities, newsletters, and dance artist services, OhioDance serves the dance field. The population served is primarily professional dance artists, educators, dance lovers, dance students and underserved communities. OD works diligently to advocate at every level of government and in every community from urban to rural about the impact dance has on the state's economy in terms of tourism and employment, but also the impact it has on quality of life and educational attainment. Our leadership is dedicated - 29 members of the Board of Directors represent a diverse array of dance and geographic areas.
